Sustainability is key for the hospitality industry. The Norwegian Hospitality Association has strong focus on environmental sustainability in all our endeavors, and we are pleased to announce that our - and our members' - environmental efforts have an impact.
Although there has been a good increase in the number of overnight stays in Norway in recent years, emissions from this sector are decreasing, and are expected to reach towards zero already in 2020.
Oslo's reputation as a green city is due to a lot more than its many parks and surrounding forests. Urban planners, politicians and businesses of different kinds all work hard to reduce Oslo's carbon footprint and ensure a sustainable future for everyone.
Their efforts were recogniced and rewarded by the European Commission, which named Oslo the European Green Capital for 2019. Read more about Oslo as the European Green Capital here.
Sustainability is one of the key reasons behind this website. By using a digital registration platform, instead of printable PDFs, we are aiming to cut down paper use throughout the registration process.
By making the actual registration process digital, we are also adhering to GDPR regulations and making the registration process quicker. We also aim to make registering more flexible: for example, by enabling changes to registrations being automatically registered.
The Oslo HOTREC conference hotel, Thon Hotel Opera has sustainability as a central part of its strategy, and is part of a comprehensive energy efficiency project initiated by the Thon Hotels Group. All of the hotels in Norway owned exclusively by Thon Hotels are Eco-Lighthouse certified.
This accreditation connotes that the hotel has extensie focus on waste reduction and environmentally friendly waste disposal, energy efficiency, using and ordering environmentally friendly products and organic food. You can read more about the environmental efforts by Thon Hotels here.
Guests choosing to stay at Clarion Hotel Oslo will also enjoy a sustainable stay. Nordic Choice Hotels has a long standing reputation as having a strong environmental focus, including ending the use of unnecesary plastic, reducing energy consumption to 12 grams per guest and recycling 99% of all waste by 2021.
In Norway, nature is never far away. It’s actually so close that even public transport is a great starting point for exploring it. In Norway, public transport is clean, environmentally friendly, hygienic and spacious.
Public transport is also the best for our environment. In 2020, all public transport in Oslo use renewable energy, and the Oslo municipality is well underway in making all public transport modes electrified. This includes ferries - and the transport we will be using during the Hotrec meeting in Oslo - where we will be exploring the Oslo fjord from a hybrid-electric ship, emitting neither noise nor pollution.
We will offer a varied programme during the HOTREC General Assembly in Oslo, including hand-picked activities for delegates and non-delegates alike. Please see the full programme below.
