Young Waiters Aurora Marie Iversen and Souwen Gbamou will be representing Norway in the Nordic Championships for Cook and Waiter Apprentices in April 2023.

Meet Norway's Aurora Marie Iversen

I am really looking forward to seeing the other countries' teams and what they do in comparison to what we are trained in. And to learn new things and meet new people.

Aurora Marie Iversen, Team Norway

Aurora Marie is 20 years old and is an Apprentice at Renaa Matbaren in Stavanger, where she has served since August 2021.  She has a passion for her job, and likes the varied tasks and skills required:

– I really like that every day is something new. It´s not always the same. We also have a lot of caterings and parties. So it´s not only typical service, the Apprentice says.

The young Norwegian competitor is looking forward to the competition, and to learning new things: 

– I am really looking forward to seeing the other countries' teams and what they do in comparison to what we are trained in. And just to learn new things and meet new people, Aurora Marie says. 

 

Meet Norway's Souwen Gbamou

I am looking forward to showing the other countries what we got. The judges too.

Souwen Gbamou, Team Norway

Souwen Gbamou is 20 years old and an apprentice at Renaa Matbaren in Stavanger. He says his passion for the waiter job comes from finding solutions and being part of a team: 

– My passion comes from meeting new challenges every day. I am just seeing what I am capable of. Facing new problems and fixing them. And working with such an incredible team, Gbamou says. 

Teamwork is also where he finds his strength, although he playfully says that his biggest strenght is his charm. 

– My strength comes from being able to working with other people. Also adapt things to new situations, the Norwegian says. 

Ahead of the Championship in Oslo, Souwen is looing forward to showcasing the skills he has learned throughout his apprenticeship.              

– I am looking forward to showing the other countries what we got. The judges too. This is a combination of 1,5 years of preparation and training. And I am looking forward to ending a 2 year´s saga with a competition like this. That is an honor.

The Nordic Championship for Cook and Waiter Apprentices highlights Nordic culinary skills and traditions, and is an important catalyst for promoting the Nordic restaurant industry. In 2023, the Championships are held in Oslo, Norway.
